4 Industry Classes with the Highest Incident Rate of Accidental Deaths

The four industry classes with the highest incident rate of accidental deaths in the work place were:

  1. Agricultural
  2. Mining
  3. Transportation & Warehousing
  4. Construction.

Of the 3,582 accidental workplace deaths in the latest year for statistics, 2009, showed these four industries combining for 1,930 of the fatalities.

Accidents occurring in transit – an employee riding in a motor vehicle, train, or plane – account for 47% of all workplace fatalities. The industry with the lowest death rate per 100,000 workers is Educational & Health Services.
