The Eyes Have It

By July 14, 2014August 22nd, 2018

According to Prevent Blindness America (PBA), more than 2,000 American workers suffer an eye injury each day.  These eye injuries can be costly for an employer and have resulted in more than $300 million in lost time, medical expenses and workers’ compensation claims, per the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

This is a great time for you to review your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) policy and the importance of safety eyewear.  Wearing proper safety goggles or glasses is considered one of the easiest and most effective ways to reduce workplace eye injuries.  Making eye safety part of your employee training and new hire orientation is important.  Remember, all it takes is a mishandling or splash of a chemical, or flying debris to cause a permanent eye injury.

If you would like additional information or resources on how to implement a PPE program, please feel free to contact Aisha Hartford, Director of Client Services at 1-800-462-6435 ext. 233.
