Top 10 Workplace Injuries

EHS Today has published a photo gallery featuring the top 10 workplace injuries as reported in the 2014 Liberty Mutual Workplace Safety Index.  They found that workplace injuries had a direct cost of $60 billion to business owners – that’s more than $1 billion per week!

Of the top 10 workplace injuries, the top 5 injuries accounted for 65.4% of the total cost and the next 5 an additional 18.4%.

Here are the top 10 workplace injuries with the costs:

  1. Overexertion – $15.1 billion
  2. Falls on the same level – $9.19 billion
  3. Struck By – $5.3 billion
  4. Falls to lower level – $5.12 billion
  5. Other exertions (kneeling, standing, bending, twisting) – $4.27 billion
  6. Motor vehicle accidents – $3.18 billion
  7. Slip or trip without fall – $2.17 billion
  8. Caught in equipment – $2.1 billion
  9. Repetitive motion – $1.84 billion
  10. Struck against – $1.76 billion
